How to do the dance move from "Wannabe" by ITZY
- Stand with your feet wide apart with your hands on your waist.
- Twist your upper body and bring your right shoulder to the front, dipping it down a little (be sure to isolate by only moving your chest and shoulders – not your whole torso). As you dip the right shoulder down, your left shoulder goes up. This is your prep move before count 1 hits.
- On count 1, shoot your right shoulder all the way up with some intentional force. At the same time, drop your left shoulder down. This will create a diagonal line across both shoulders. As you swap the orientation of your shoulders, allow your upper body to twist to the left side.
- Next, drop your right shoulder down and bring your left shoulder up. Your upper body now twists to the right side. Keep the movement small – no overreaching.
- Then, shoot your left shoulder all the way up to move big again on count 2.
- Finally, bring your left shoulder down and right shoulder up again. Alternate the shoulder orientation twice and then shoot that right shoulder all the way up again on count 3. Your body should be twisting to the left side again, just like at the beginning.
- This shimmy and hit move can be a little tricky at first, so practice each section slowlyyy several times. Once you feel like you have the mechanics in order, work your way to full tempo.
All done!
Keep in mind that you should look powerful when you do this move, so it helps to keep your chin up and look down the bridge of your nose at your audience.
You also want to keep in mind that you have a small movement, then a big movement, over and over, so varying your power level is key.
I like to say "shimmy, hit, shimmy, hit" as I do the move so I know when the big hit is coming!
