This weekend, while most of us here in Cali were attending the Bridge Dance Competition series, an equally momentous event was happening on the east coast. For the 7th year in a row, countless dancers from the east coast dance community made their way, despite the heavy rain, to Prelude East Coast (held at the Arthur F. Couch Performing Arts Center this year), as hungry and motivated as ever.

One of the biggest things that struck us was how tight-knit and passionate the dance community is on the east coast. As opposed to having 40-50 dancers per team, most teams at Prelude East Coast had an average of 15-25 dancers per team. Many dancers that showed up to compete were also on several different teams as well, and we quickly learned that most take multiple buses and trains (and other methods of transportation) to show up for their practices. Talk about dedication.

Despite the rain and the limited space to practice, the teams cleaned in cramped corners of the arts center, resorted to practicing in the lobby, and recorded/studied their tech time profusely, all to put on a good show for the community. And a damn good show it was; if each team's goal was to just have fun on stage, that translated VERY well - we were blown away by the east coast dance community's positive spirit and vibe! (We also got really excited that we saw Kinjaz shirts, Frenemies shirts and GRV shirts at Prelude EC. Yay for the merging of dance communities!)

Prelude East Coast Results:

1st Place: STATIC NOYZE

2nd Place: C2 GENESYS

3rd Place: UFP

And of course, the performance from the gracious hosts of Prelude East Coast, PROJECT D:
