Do you feel like it's too late to start dancing? Don't worry, it's something that a lot of people wonder. And the quick answer for it, is no.

It's definitely not too late to start dancing.

“It is never too late to be what you might have been."

– George Eliot

But after years of being an observer and not a do-er, you've created this narrative for yourself: “I'm too old, it's way too late to start now...”

Let's undo that narrative. It's not only untrue, it's holding you back from experiencing, doing, being so much more.

Clock's a-tickin', time's a-wastin'. So keep reading.

"Is it too late to start dancing?"

First of all, age really ain’t nothin’ but a number

Fun fact: Colonel Sanders founded KFC at the age of 62.

If he was like, “Man, I’m too old to open a restaurant,” and hung up his apron, then we’d have no 12 PIECE ORIGINAL RECIPE WITH 3 SIDES AND 6 BISCUITS FOR DINNER.

What a shame that would’ve been.

Good thing Mr. Sanders, along with several other inventors, artists, entrepreneurs, and dancers knew that age… age ain’t nothin’ but a number.

Because T B H,

You can start to do whatever, whenever.

Sure, there are more “conventional” age ranges for certain things... but like…

Who cares!!!

People start biking at 6 or 60 years old. People get married at 18 or 80. And age does not determine whether you succeed at, or even enjoy any of these things.

It all depends on how you feel, what you want, where you are in life.

You are allowed to choose and change your hobbies, careers, environment, lifestyle... whenever you want.

Once you free yourself from those arbitrary societal constructs, you give yourself freedom to pursue dance at age 20, 45, 60…

And guess what? Fear is actually your friend

A lot of us fear being judged. We're scared of not being able to keep up in a class. We fear... just feeling old in a sea of 16 year-old SwagMonsterz!

But these are good signs. These are the exact reasons you should start dancing.

In The War of Art author Steven Pressfield talks about “Resistance” as the main culprit behind dreams unfollowed and passions abandoned.

We resist taking certain opportunities or risks in dance because we are afraid.

Yet,

“Fear is good. Like self-doubt, fear is an indicator. Fear tells us what we have to do.”

– Steven Pressfield

The more resistance you feel against something, the more it means to you, and the more you’re meant to do it.

I mean, if you didn't care, it'd just be another thing you do without much gusto.

This resistance to dance will be transformed into motivation, passion, and drive – as soon as you start.

So.. what’s your excuse?

Even after you address your fears, there are still so many excuses you can make. But we’re here with that no-BS tough love to squash all your irrelevant excuses!

Whatever excuse you find – it’s exactly that. An excuse. Where there’s a will, there’s a way. Always. Once you find that will... there'll be no stopping you.

You are never too busy, old, or poor. It is never too late to start dancing.

No pressure; starting small is fine – as long as you start now

When you’ve put off something for a long time it just reestablishes itself in your head as being this huge, difficult, scary, impossible endeavor.

When it’s really... not.

As soon as you do something to start, as small as that action is, the intimidation will disappear.

"A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step."

– Lao Tzu

You’ll realize that it’s not that scary! It’s not that crazy! And it’s actually... pretty fun!!! Don’t think or plan too much. Just do something, one little thing.

Groove out to your favorite throwback song or try out a class on STEEZY Studio.

However small it is, take that baby step. Baby steps are what eventually turn into huge leaps and bounds.

“A year from now you may wish you had started today.”

– Karen Lamb

Here are some killers in the dance scene that give NO F%^!S about age

Like Colonel Sanders, there are many dancers that we’re glad did not let age stop them from doing what they love.

Yoshie is a locker who is also well versed in many other styles. She’s battled, performed, taught, and judged all over the world.

She’s gained the respect and love of dancers and audiences through her talent, energy, and funk. Yoshie is over 40 years old.

Like dayum. Silver Classix Crew was a crowd favorite at Hip Hop Internationals a few years ago!

They got that old school flava while integrating newer styles in their sets. The team is comprised of senior dancers, ages 50- 75.

I find myself wondering if I’ll be able to get down like them when I’m 70 and realize – of course I can! We all can.

(Note to self: Retire in Atlanta and audition for Silver Classix.)

So here's a liberating, life-changing truth: Dance is a choice. A choice with no expiration date.

Whether you’re 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80 years old, it's never too late to start dancing. So... Let’s start dancing!
